Downtown Hastings is bringing art to the streets through a vibrant Mural Crosswalk Project along 1st Street. This initiative is part of the ongoing effort to enhance the downtown experience, improve walkability, and celebrate the creativity that defines our community.

The project will transform select crosswalks into bold, eye-catching works of art designed by local and regional artists. Each mural will be uniquely crafted to reflect the spirit, culture, and energy of Hastings while creating a more engaging and welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike.

In addition to adding visual interest, the mural crosswalks are intended to:

• Increase pedestrian visibility and safety
• Support local artists and creatives
• Strengthen the identity of downtown as a creative district
• Encourage foot traffic and exploration of local businesses

The Mural Crosswalk Project is made possible through support from the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.

Designs are currently being selected through a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process, with installation planned for the upcoming season.
